Shops on Sovetskaya

Photo from 1940. “Today, of course, nothing reminds us of the street that was once called Bazarnaya. "Siberian trade and industrial yearbook 1914-1915." called it, along with some others, the “most central” street. And there were reasons for this then. Here, on the section from Tokmakskaya Street (Zhumabek to Uyezdnaya (Abdumomunova)), merchant shops and shops were grouped together. On the site of the new building of the library named after V.I. Lenin, until 1980 there was a number of small one-story stores - a bookstore, a vegetable store, a consignment store (formerly a shoe store)... These buildings and some others down and up the street were once merchant shops. On the other side streets, where the square near the circus was laid out, there were “Trading Rows” - long, squat buildings. Immediately behind the building of these rows, the Flour Market was noisy on the square, which existed until the 50s. The last buildings of the Trading Rows were demolished in 1975. At the corner of Tokmakskaya Street, before the revolution, there was a pharmacy store by A. Kveitman. After the revolution, the central pharmacy operated here until the 60s.” (D.S. Losev).
