City bazaar

of the early twentieth century. The main urban object in Pishpek was the bazaar adjacent to the central part of the city. At first, several adobe and wooden benches were located along its borders. They sold grain and flour, and there was also a meat aisle. The Dungans delivered cheap vegetables, rice, red pepper, and garlic to the market. Vegetables and fresh fruits, livestock products and live cattle were brought from the surrounding villages. In the center of the market square there were large scales for wholesale purchase and sale, and traders of apricots, raisins, and nuts took their places around them with their cups or bags. They also traded construction timber here - boards and round timber. Several taverns and teahouses adjoined the market square, where you could have a good meal, relax, and even spend the night.
