HISTORICAL PLACE

Chuikov's House

This house on Yuzhnaya Street (Chuikova) was built as an art studio-workshop in 1937. The Hungarian sculptor Laszlo Messaros lived and worked in it. He participated in the design of artistic panels in the halls of the railway station, and made sketches of friezes for the Government House. His hands made the decorative lampshades and carved doors of the meeting room in this building. Later, the artist Semyon Chuikov lived and worked in this house. Since 1978, the Komsomol History Museum has been located here. In 1987, the House-Museum of S.A. Chuikov, an artist, painter, and founder of modern fine art in Kyrgyzstan, was opened. The first art gallery in the republic, which today is called the Kyrgyz Museum of Fine Arts, was opened with his help in 1934. He also organized a studio school, which in 1939 received the status of an Art School.
